EBF Seed to Skillet Recipes - Cabbage

What do i say about CABBAGE !!!

My favorite Cabbage was the RED.

I never liked cabbage growing up, it was always cooked like Cabbage Soup, toooooo much water.

I became a REBEL and decided that I’m going to Sautee my cabbage, and WOW what a different world to my taste buds.

It was not until I started cabbage from SEED this year and transplanted into my new garden beds here in East Central Texas and actually harvested my Fall 2021 Cabbage Heads, that I decided ALL Cabbage was my favorite.

So lets get to the BASIC recipe, and maybe another time we will get to chatting more about Cabbage Varieties :)

SEED TO SKILLET SAUTEED GREEN CABBAGE

PREP TIME: An easy 5 Min

COOK TIME: I would estimate 15-20 minutes for a small head of Cabbage

SERVINGS: I would say 4 as I normally am just cooking for hubby and I

AUTHOR: me

INGREDIENTS

1 small head garden born green cabbage, sliced not to thin

1 Red Onion sliced not to thin, I appreciate the POP of color, but use the onion you prefer

4 cloves of Garlic sliced thin

2 Tablespoons of pantry GHEEE, or store bought if you must, or butter, you can use Olive Oil to

Sea Salt to taste (go light because Cabbage is actually SWEET and yummy)

White Pepper to taste (go light it’s POWERFUL, or use black pepper to taste)

COOKING STEPS

1-Bring your skillet to a medium heat, be careful because you do not want to burn the GHEE, just melt

2-Place the Onions in the skillet to caramelize a bit, and get the Aroma going

3-Place the Garlic slices in just give it a whirl for a couple minutes

3-Place the washed and dried Cabbage on top of the onions and garlic, you do not need to add water, Cabbage has lots of natural water already it will release as it heats up, stir all ingredients until everything is coated with the ghee, continue to whirl like every 3 minutes, this will ensure all the salt the sweat from the onions and garlic are thoroughly mixing in with the cabbage

4-After 10-15 minutes of stirring, I turn the heat down to medium, place a lid on for 5 minutes to make sure everything gets a little melty and drippy with the Onion, Garlic and Ghee.

You will notice you have more room in the skillet now, and THAT is when you know its done, and some of the cabbage will be a bit crunchy THATS WHAT YOU WANT, no need to over cook.

And THAT my friends is ONE WAY I cook an easy Cabbage Dish.
