EBF Fire Cider

Greetings !!! Ok so it’s been about a month since I started aging our Fire Cider for the Fall and Winter Season..

But come on Y’all our Grandparents, Parents, Aunties, Uncles have been making this concoction forever for the Cold and Flu Seasons.

I’ve even made it without knowing it was called Fire Cider when I would make that call to my Mom or Auntie. The difference is now I actually GROW my own HERBS or support other small farmers/gardeners and purchase from them.

I will be supporting A New Friend and her journey into growing HERBS on her Farm, Trish I am so Proud of you, if you want to check out her new website please go to

bluebonnetbarnllc.com

I just have not reached that point where I know every HERB on the Planet, nor have I reached the capacity to grow every HERB. That is why I appreciate pooling together in our Garden Communities so check her new site out and watch her GROW AS SHE WILL DEBUT IN 2022!!!

Anyway it’s time to strain and store, it really isn’t advisable to let it age over a month, you just want to capture the HERB ESSENCE during the aging process.

Below I will share the steps and ingredients that I perform, however, its not the only recipe, this is the one I wanted to start with for my first batch. I have balanced it with fire and honey, because my household meets in the middle of the heat index.

EBF FIRE CIDER GARDEN RECIPE

PREP TIME about 20 minutes depending on how large your batch will be it could be less time

AGING TIME 14 days - 30 days (my preference is 30 days)

INGREDIENTS (TIP) I used all Fresh HERBS because I have a Garden buts its ok if you must use store bought items, OR try reaching out to one of your local garden friends Im sure supporting them would be a great relationship builder.

1/4 cup Garlic (minced)

1 medium Onion (I use RED for the antioxidants but you can use any onion) I did have to purchase these because i used all of my onions as I didnt grow that many but next season I WILL BE READY.

1/2 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper OR I did dehydrate my peppers so I consider this a fresh product

1 small Cayenne Pepper minced (just go out to your garden and grab one and say Thank You :)

2 inch long Horseradish Root (minced) this root takes ONE YEAR TO HARVEST I definitely have a new found RESPECT for this mighty root. I actually started more a couple weeks ago.

2 inch long Ginger Root (minced) I always have this root growing in my kitchen window or countertop

1 Tablespoon of Rosemary I purchased 2 of these bushes from Home Depot and I should not run out all winter

1 Tablespoon of Thyme another kitchen HERB

Apple Cider Vinegar enough to cover your ingredients in the jar it will age in. (Have you tried making your own, sure it takes a while but it last forever)

AFTER THE AGING (add Raw Honey to taste) I realize everyone does not have hives, but surely you can support your local Bee Keepers, another relationship builder

STEPS

1-select the mason jar or glass container you desire, if your not sure have a few sizes available you may have to dump into a smaller or larger depending on the volume of your ingredients plus you will need to LEAVE AN INCH OR TWO OF HEAD SPACE ALSO REMEMBER YOU WILL NEED TO USE A WEIGHT AND YOU WANT AN OPENING THAT WILL SUPPORT THE WEIGHT NEATLY SO THAT THE INGREDIENTS WILL NOT POP UP ABOVE THE WEIGHT

2-After placing your ingredients in the container measure out a cup at a time the Apple Cider Vinegar, this helps you document for the next time how much you will need to cover the ingredients.

3-Use a weight to keep the ingredients submerged, I do have glass weights that i use for various fermenting projects, and depending on your container you probably can get away with using those 4 ounce jelly jars. TRUST ME MAKE SURE IT DOESNT FIT TOO TIGHT BECAUSE IT WILL PROBABLY GIVE YOU A HARD TIME COMING OUT WHEN YOUR DONE AGING YOUR FIRE CIDER (YUP THAT WAS ME LONG AGO LOL) place a lid on the jar and shake to make sure all the cayenne gets thru

4-Place the container in a dark cool area, I used my Pantry, because I go in there daily so i would not forget, but if you skip a day its ok.

5-After your desired time, use a strainer to pour out the ingredients, then if you want add the honey to taste, try it without it first see if your taste buds can handle it

6-Place your Fire Cider back in the pantry and now your ready for the first signs of a cold, around here if I even here a sniffle even with myself I start my regiment and take about 2 Tablespoons a couple times of day depending on how I feel. Its suggested not to procrastinate. If you have your own, you won’t have to wait and try to find out who is selling it and take the risk of hoping its strong enough and mail time etc.

And THAT my friends is ONE WAY I put together our
